Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Sumter and Central Greene Counties Until 5:45 PM CDT

At 5:01 PM, the National Weather Service in Birmingham detected a line of severe thunderstorms stretching from near Cooksville to Tamola, moving east at 35 mph. These storms are capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail.

This warning includes the cities of Livingston, Eutaw, York, and Forkland, as well as areas like Gainesville, Boligee, and the University of West Alabama campus. Smaller communities including Panola, Epes, West Greene, and Geiger are also in the path of this storm.

Expect damage to roofs, siding, trees, and vehicles. These storms can produce dangerous straight-line winds and large hail.

For your safety, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows, and do not remain outdoors. Stay alert for additional warnings as this line continues to push eastward.
