FINALLY FRIDAY: Hot temperatures and high humidity, and scattered afternoon and evening showers and storms, it is summer in Alabama. This afternoon, rain and storms will be common across the Alabama landscape with rain chances above 60%. Temperatures this afternoon are in the upper 80s and lower 90s. Of course, all storms will produce tremendous amounts of lightning and tropical downpours, which can lead to areas of isolated flash flooding. Organized severe weather is not expected, but an isolated severe storm or two can’t be ruled out with gusty winds and hail.

BIRMINGHAM ALMANAC: For July 11th, the average high for Birmingham is 91° and the average low is 72°. The record high is 103° set in 1901, while the record low is 58° set in 1963. We average 0.18” of precipitation on this date and the record value is 2.84” set in 1903.

IN THE TROPICS: The Atlantic Basin is quiet, with no tropical cyclone development expected the next seven days this is according to the National Hurricane Center.

WEEKEND WEATHER: Rain chances will decrease some over the week as an upper-ridge tries to build in bringing warmer air aloft. For both Saturday and Sunday, expect partly sunny days, highs in the lower 90s both Saturday and Sunday.

NEXT WEEK: It’s the “Dogs Days of Summer,” meaning a classic, summertime pattern will persist for much of next. Each a mix of sun and clouds each day, with random, scattered afternoon and evening storms, mainly during the 1pm-10pm timeframe. Rain chances will be in the 30-40% range for the first half, but look to increase above 50% to end the week.
