VERY WARM DAYS: Sure looks like we will be very close to 90 degrees today, tomorrow, and Friday. The GFS is printing 88 today, 90 tomorrow, and 91 on Friday, and is probably very close to the truth. One way or another, it will be the warmest weather so far this year in Alabama, and each day will feature a sunny sky. Dewpoints will be mostly in the 50s, so we won’t have the oppressive humidity levels we see in July and August.

FRIDAY NIGHT FRONT: A strong short wave will pass through the Great Lakes Friday night, and will drag a cold front through Alabama late Friday night. The latest GFS run does indeed develop a band of showers along that front, but we still expect rain amounts to be light and spotty. The best chance of showers will come from about 11:00 p.m. Friday through 7:00 a.m. Saturday, and amounts should be generally less than one-tenth of an inch.

OUR WEEKEND: After the showers end early Saturday, the sky will become mostly sunny, and humidity levels will drop. The high should be in the upper 70s with a pleasant north breeze. Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the 00Z GFS moves the old front northward on Sunday, and accordingly a few showers show up with the warm front during the day. Our ongoing forecast does mention this possibility, but we have it in the forecast for Monday. Let’s watch the latest GFS later this morning to confirm this idea; one way or another it won’t be a big rain event.

NEXT WEEK: Still looks like the bulk of the rain will be west and north of Alabama next week as an upper ridge remains over the Southeast U.S. Highs will be mostly in the 80s.
