J.B. will run down a full list of morning lows a little later, but no doubt this is the coldest morning so far this fall for the Deep South. Today will feature a cobalt blue sky with maximum sunshine and very low humidity. The high this afternoon should be in the upper 60s for most communities. Tomorrow should be just a cold, followed by a warming trend that begins tomorrow afternoon as we reach the low 70s.

REST OF THE WEEK: The long dry spell continues… keep in mind a fire alert remains in effect for the entire state due to the danger of wildfires in these conditions. The slow warm-up continues, and we should reach the 80 degree mark by Thursday and Friday. Nights will stay pleasantly cool.

WEEKEND PEEK: Dry is the word. Sunny days, clear nights Saturday and Sunday with highs in the low 80s. Should be hard to find a decent cloud in the Alabama sky for the next 7 days.

NEXT RAIN? The 00Z GFS continues to suggest our next possibility of rain comes in the October 13-14 time frame as an upper trough sweeps through with a little Gulf moisture in place. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.

TROPICS: All remains rather quiet across the Atlantic basin. The GFS develops a system over the Northeast Caribbean in about 10 days, but it moves northeast into the Atlantic due to the mean upper trough over the eastern U.S.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. We will record this week’s show tonight; Bill Murray is in Phoenix at the annual National Weather Association convention and will join us live from the big event. The show begins at 8:30 p.m. CDT… it will be on iTunes and the web late tonight.
