Some folks are waking up to a little light frost this morning with temperatures across Central Alabama ranging from 51 atop Mt. Cheaha to 34 at Fort Payne and Gadsden. But look for a nice warm up today with beautifully clear skies as afternoon temperatures reach the lower 70s.

Sunday should be a repeat of today with lots of sun. The day will start a tad warmer with lows in the lower 40s and highs again reaching the 70s – mid 70s for most spots.

Dry weather and a continued warming trend will continue Monday as we start the work week and a new month! But Tuesday will see some changes with clouds increasing. In the upper atmosphere, a closed low/trough comes out of Texas but it is expected to dive southward into South Texas. This keeps us on the edge of any precipitation with only some small chance for showers. Those chances should continue into Wednesday morning but we will be drying out again thanks this time to a very deep trough over the eastern half of the country.

I think rainfall with this event will be limited due to the showery nature of the expected precipitation. Some locations could see a quarter of an inch.

The deep trough should bring some very chilly air to the eastern US especially New England and the Mid-Atlantic states. The position of the trough means continued chilly conditions for us and perhaps a shot at the first freeze of the season. I know, the MOS guidance values show only lower 40s, but it would not take much of change in the trough position to bring some cold air to the Southeast US.

With the trough in place though gradually weakening into the weekend, we should be dry and cool with afternoon temperatures reaching only the lower and mid 60s.

Tropics are fairly active with two storms. Shary has moved by Bermuda and should diminish into a sub-tropical storm by Sunday. Tomas, on the other hand, is forecast to become a major storm around Wednesday as it nears Jamaica. The big trough over the eastern half of the country should curve Tomas to the north before it becomes a threat to the US, but that means it could move into the Bahamas by the end of the week.

Another shot of rain is possible around November 12 as the GFS continued to paint a fairly active pattern across the US.
