Clouds have been slower to move out than expected this morning across Central Alabama behind a cold front that moved through overnight.  The clouds may hang tough much of the rest of the afternoon with a chilly north wind.  This means highs will probably not get out of the 40s.  Sorry about that.

LIGHT FREEZE POSSIBLE TONIGHT:  With clear skies tonight, temperatures will drop to near or below freezing across much of North and Central Alabama.   Upper 20s will be common across the northern tier of counties, with mid 20s in some colder spots.  Readings will be around 30F across North Central Alabama in the I-20 corrdior, with upper 20s in the normally colder locations.  South of that, lows will be in the lower to middle 30s.  Keep these temperatures in mind if you have already planted anything that might be harmed by the cold.

DRY MONDAY AND TUESDAY:  A giant ridge of high pressure will extend all the way from eastern Canada to the Gulf Coast by Monday morning.  This will give us fine seasonal weather for Monday with highs in the middle 60s.  In fact, we are calling for 64F in Birmingham on Monday, which is dead on the “normal” high for the date.  We will make it back into the upper 30s Monday night across Central Alabama.  By Tuesday, that ridge will shift eastward, and as It does, it will allow the Gulf of Mexico to open for business again. Showers and strms will return early Wednesday morning.
