ANOTHER CHILLY MORNING: I must confess I love these cool mornings, and cherish them since the long, hot summer is just around the corner. Gadsden is reporting 38 degrees this morning, with the rest of the state in the 40s. We note a little scattered light rain north of here, over Tennessee, with a strong short wave passing through, but our air remains dry as a bone, and we stay dry today with a partly to mostly sunny sky along with a high in the mid 70s.

THE WEEKEND: We hit the low 80s tomorrow with a sunny sky; dewpoints remain in the 40s so the humidity will stay low, making for a very comfortable day. But, on Sunday, those dewpoints creep up into the low 60s, and we rise into the mid 80s, giving the day a summer feel. No rain throughout the weekend as the benign weather pattern continues, thankfully.

NEXT WEEK: I guess you might call it hot for May as we should be near the 90 degree mark Monday through Wednesday. A strong upper ridge will keep us dry with a good supply of sunshine each day. But, at the end of the week, a deep upper trough lifts out of the western U.S., and will push a cold front through Alabama on Friday. For now the chance of significant severe weather looks very small, although there could be some thunderstorms involved. We will keep an eye on that setup in coming days, however, since we must remember that May is still tornado season in Alabama.

Much cooler air floods Alabama the following weekend (May 14-15) as a very deep upper trough covers the eastern third of the nation. See the Weather Xtreme video for more long range ideas.
