THIS AFTERNOON: Pretty warm for mid-September… temperatures at 2:00 range from 84 at Gadsden to 91 at Tuscaloosa with a good supply of sunshine. The weather will be very warm again tomorrow with a high in the 88-91 degree range with a partly to mostly sunny sky. An approaching cold front will bring some risk of showers and storms to Alabama tomorrow night, especially over the northern third of the state.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY: Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the 12Z GFS is faster with the front, suggesting the main window for showers and storms will come from about 9:00 p.m. tomorrow night through 12:00 noon Thursday. And, the QPF amounts are fairly light; suggesting rain amounts will be only 1/4 inch or less. Some thunder is possible, but severe weather is not likely due to the lack of upper support and instability.

Cooler air rolls into the state Thursday, with the high dropping into the low 80s. And, Friday is looking dry and pleasant with a high somewhere between 77 and 80 degrees along with a partly sunny sky. I believe we can take out the small risk of a shower we have in the forecast.

WEEKEND PEEK: The 12Z GFS looks pretty dry, and again I think we can take out the small risk of a shower we have maintained for Saturday and Sunday. Looks like a decent amount of sunshine both days with a high not too far from 80 degrees. Mornings will be pleasant, with upper 50s at many places. Some of the cooler spots across North Alabama could see low 50s early Saturday and Sunday morning.

NEXT WEEK: The latest GFS has backed off of the idea of a sharp cold front passing through Tuesday… it shows a weaker front that stalls out before reaching Alabama. See the Weather Xtreme video for details… just too early to be really specific.

TROPICS: Maria is expected to remain a tropical storm as it recurves into the North Atlantic well east of the U.S. The rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet for now… see the Weather Xtreme video for more details.

I had a wonderful time today speaking at the annual banquet for the Oak Mountain Mission Ministry; what a huge crowd at the Cahaba Grande Conference center. Tonight I will be the emcee for the Shelby Sav-A-Life banquet at the Pelham Civic Center. Busy days, but great days. Look for the next Weather Xtreme video here by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow…
