A Quiet Weekend

As you know, Brian is on the QRT (Quick Response Team) that goes into areas where tornadoes are suspected to be rated as an EF4 or EF5. Brian and his team has rated both the Lawrence and Jackson County tornadoes as an EF4, and he has extensive pictures from both disaster sites. LOOKING AHEAD: A calm weather pattern continues through Monday with pleasant afternoons and chilly nights. The latest GFS guidance has backed off on the amount of cooling on Sunday, and is now suggesting a high near 60 today, tomorrow, Sunday, and Monday. Early morning lows will be generally in the 30s.

NEXT RAIN: Still looks like the next rain event comes around the middle of next week; we will mention a chance of showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday thanks to a short wave upper trough rolling through the flow. The GFS is pretty consistent now in the timing of the feature, but not consistent in the strength. There might be a few strong thunderstorms involved, but nothing like the severe weather event earlier this week.

INTO THE LAND OF VOODOO: The GFS is still locked onto the idea of a big Arctic shot here around February 20-22. The storm system hints at a rain/snow event across parts of the Deep South as well; see the Weather Xtreme video for more. But, remember, this is voodoo land. There is not much skill in a specific forecast beyond seven days; we are just peeking.

STORM ALERT 2008 NEXT TUESDAY: Thanks to everyone who came out last night to the Anniston City Meeting Center for Storm Alert 2008; we had a great crowd and met lots of people. Next week’s show in Northport will be on Tuesday night… at the Northport Civic Center (not Thursday!). Doors will open at 5:00, the show begins at 7:00. We hope to see you there.
