Cold air not far away, light rain already here

| December 5, 2011 @ 5:41 pm

Light rain showers and drizzle are moving across Alabama this evening…and that will continue tomorrow and probably through Wednesday morning.  There is a big time cold front sitting just to our west.  Take a look at 515 pm temperatures:

Coming down I-22, 36 in Memphis, 39 in Oxford, 46 in Tupelo, 60 in Winfield, and 64 in BHM.  That front will move very slowly tonight and tomorrow, since the upper flow is parallel to the front.   The rain may get heavier at times tomorrow and tomorrow night behind the front (it’s usually the other way around), but the rain may not get out of here completely until Wed night.  Temperatures are going way down fast in the next 48 hours.  Take a look at this chart of forecast temps from the GFS model.

The timing on this is pretty good.  We’ll drop into the upper 40s by tomorrow morning, move little during the day, then drop through the 40s and into the upper 30s Tuesday night and Wednesday.  Then, it will stay cold the rest of the week.  But, it’s time!  All these inflatable snowmen are getting too warm.
