Cooler, Drier Weekend

| December 16, 2011 @ 2:59 pm

**No Weather Xtreme video today due to the Toys for Tots 26 hours marathon… we will get back to the regular two a day production schedule Monday**

WILD CLOUDS: Be sure and scroll down for a look at the amazing Kelvin-Helmholtz wave clouds over Birmingham earlier today. Very cool stuff; thanks to everybody for sending in pictures and video!

BRIGHTER DAYS: Clouds will slowly move out of Alabama late tonight as colder and drier air moves in. We note Jackson, Tennessee is at only 39 degrees at 2:00… so the weekend looks pretty chilly.

Despite a sunny sky tomorrow, the high will be only in the low 50s here, and to the north many communities won’t get out of the 40s over North Alabama. Then, we head for a light freeze early Sunday morning. Sunday looks sunny with a high in the 57-60 degree range.

NEXT WEEK: Monday stays dry, but we will bring in the chance of rain and possibly a few thunderstorms by Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night with the next approaching cold front. The 12Z model runs are hinting that the front might stall out somewhere around here, keeping the weather wet and unsettled through the latter half of the week. For now Christmas Day looks dry and seasonal. We will be able to be much more specific about Christmas weekend Monday.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.

I had a great time today visiting with the 3rd graders at Chelsea Park Elementary… be looking for them on the Pepsi KIDCAM today at 5:00 on ABC 33/40 News. And, I will be live from Legacy BBQ on Alabama Highway 150 right across from Applebees at 4, 5, and 6:00 as we wrap up our Toys for Tots marathon. I understand we are very close to our 80,000 toy goal… be watching for updates!

Brian Peters, the internationally beloved meteorologist, will have the video updates tomorrow and Sunday… my next video will be posted bright and early Monday morning. Enjoy the weekend!
