Dry Through The Weekend

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

CALM PATTERN: A nice, tranquil pattern will continue for Alabama for the next five to seven days with generally dry and cool weather continuing.

The sky will be partly sunny today and tomorrow with a high in the low 60s; just a little above average (the average high today is 56; tomorrow it is 57).

The weather will be a tad cooler Thursday and Friday with a high back in the mid to upper 50s, which is exactly where we should be this time of the year. We will be well down in the 30s early Thursday and Friday morning.

CHILLY WEEKEND: A dry front will move through Friday night (although it actually might bring a few sprinkles to the Tennessee Valley of extreme North Alabama), and that will bring even cooler air for the weekend. Some places in North Alabama might have a hard time getting out of the 40s Saturday despite a good supply of sunshine, and we go below freezing early Sunday with most places in the 25 to 30 degree range.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: The GFS brings in some rain Tuesday of next week with a southern branch system; the ECMWF shows a little rain Monday, with drier air Tuesday. So, model madness rules, but that seems to be the next chance of rain, at some point early next week, and for now it doesn’t look like a major event.

And, still no sign of any really serious, long lasting cold weather or snow or ice issues here through mid-month. But we wonder if late February and March, at some point, will make us shiver. We will just have to wait and see…

STORM ALERT 2012: Our annual severe weather awareness tour across Alabama comes to Phil Campbell this week at Northwest-Shoals Community College. If you are in Marion, Winston, or Franklin County (or any part of Northwest Alabama), be sure and make plans to be there. Some very powerful stories to tell from April 27. We hope to see you there. The show begins at 6:30… be sure and get there early to get a good seat.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. Scroll down for the show notes on this week’s new episode.
