Very quiet around Alabama at this very early hour. The numerous showers and thunderstorms last evening never did completely go away. However, they did not cause trouble overnight.

At 2:55 this morning, a long band of showers extends all the way from Dothan in the southeast corner of Alabama, northwestward to about Montgomery and Birmingham and finally into Northwest Alabama. Moderate to heavy showers now across Winston and East Marion County in Northwest Alabama. Moving northwest.

LIGHTNING : Almost non-existent at 2:55 am. A few dying strokes over the waters just offshore from NW Fla., Alabama and Mississippi. Major displays of lightning in that area last evening. Got to be zillions of nervous fish.

Will update the Storm Prediction Center outlook for today in a few minutes. Alabama is almost certain to be under at least a “slight risk” today. This is our best chance in a long time for a statewide soaking .
