From The Forecast Office…

A few notes as we get ready for the 10:00 news…

*The new 00Z NAM shows 0.10″ for Birmingham during the next 18 hours, and if that falls in the form of snow (which is what we expect) it should mean around one inch here. That is what is in our ongoing forecast…. around one inch or so for the I-20 corridor (an average value).

*Best chance of more than one inch of snow tonight will be along and north of U.S. 278. The snow has really looked good on the Russellville SKYCAM during the last hour, and the ground is turning white.

*The very cold air aloft associated with the upper trough will bring the chance of some convective snow overnight… somebody around here might even have some thundersnow. If this happens, then the snow accumulation will vary a good bit from city to city.

*The next vort max is rounding the base of the trough; you can see the associated increase in precipitation over East Texas. That will influence the weather here by early tomorrow morning.

*We will still expect no travel problems along the I-20 corridor… Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Anniston. The only issues will be the possibility of some spotty bridge icing over the Tennessee Valley after midnight and tomorrow morning.

*We will begin live weather coverage tomorrow morning at 5:00 on ABC 33/40-TV… along with the live Internet stream. Get up early and join us… “sleep is for sissies”!
