FOGGY START: The NWS continues a dense fog advisory for parts of West and North Alabama this morning…that fog should burn off by mid-morning, and the day ahead promises to be warm and humid with a mix of sun and clouds and a high in the mid 80s.

All of a sudden the models have backed off considerably on the chance of rain for our state today, as the main forcing with the surface front and upper trough will be delayed until tonight and early tomorrow. Accordingly we will need to back off on the chance of rain today, although scattered showers or storms could still form this afternoon during the heat of the day.

It now looks like the main window for showers and storms will come from about 6:00 tonight through 9:00 a.m. tomorrow. Additional rain amounts of one-half to one inch are likely, and the chance of organized severe weather looks low, although some of the stronger storms could produce small hail and gusty winds.

DRIER AIR MOVES IN: The sky should become partly sunny over North Alabama tomorrow afternoon as the band of showers and storms moves into South Alabama. Dewpoints will drop during the day, and the sky will be clear for most of the state by tomorrow night.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY: These days will feature a sunny sky, low humidity, and cool nights. We will see an early morning low not too far from 50 degrees early Thursday and Friday, with mid to upper 40s likely for the colder spots. We won’t have too many more cool mornings like this as the long hot summer is so close. The high Thursday will be in the upper 70s, followed by low 80s on Friday.

WEEKEND PEEK: A pretty good bit of uncertainty in the weekend forecast; what happens here will all be determined by the behavior of the upper low now on the Arizona/California border. The 00Z models now keep much of our weekend rain-free, with the main energy directed well to the south over the Gulf of Mexico. But, that could change… for now we will just mention a chance of widely scattered showers and storms Saturday and Sunday with a high around 80 both days with a partly sunny sky… we can adjust the forecast as needed in coming days. But, if you believe the 00Z model runs a pretty good part of the weekend will be dry.

NEXT WEEK: A cold front brings a good chance of showers or storms late Monday night into Tuesday, followed by cooler and drier air Wednesday as an upper low sets up north of Alabama. See the Weather Xtreme video for the details and graphics.
