HERE COME THE 90s: As expected, today is a delightful late May day in Alabama with temperatures generally in the 80s at mid-afternoon. Birmingham reports 82 degrees at 3:00… which is one degree below the average high of 83 for May 23. The dew point is 53, making the relative humidity only 36 percent.

But, our weather will heat up in the days ahead. We project a high near 90 tomorrow, followed by low 90s on Friday. The air stays dry and the sky will be sunny both days.

HOLIDAY WEEKEND: Our weather stays hot and dry. Look for a good supply of sunshine Saturday and Sunday with afternoon highs in the 90 to 94 degree range as an upper high will be sitting right on top of Alabama. Humidity levels will creep up as well.

We will introduce the chance of widely scattered showers Monday afternoon as the upper high begins to break down a bit; scattered showers and storms are more likely Tuesday and Wednesday of next week as tropical moisture increases across the Deep South. Highs will drop back into the 80s by the middle of next week.

TROPICAL UPDATE: Yes, the hurricane season doesn’t officially arrive until June 1, but we are watching a disturbed area of weather in the Caribbean. This mass of storms is expected to drift north/northeast, and could bring heavy rain to South Florida by Friday and the weekend. For now there will be on impact on Alabama, although some of the moisture could creep in here toward the middle part of next week. See the Weather Xtreme video for more details and all the graphics.

SEC BASEBALL WEATHER: Somebody must be living right… looks like the entire SEC tournament will be played at Regions Park in Hoover without a single drop of rain between now and Sunday. The heat will be the main issue with low 90s likely at the site over the weekend.

GULF COAST WEATHER: More great weather for the Alabama and Northwest Florida Gulf Coast, with sunny days and fair nights through the weekend. A few isolated showers could show up by Sunday and Monday, but nothing widespread. Highs will be in the 80s, and sea water temperatures remain in the low 80s from Panama City west to Gulf Shores.
