Alabama Early Wednesday–3:45 am Report

| January 17, 2007 @ 3:55 am | 9 Replies

Not much going on across Alabama very early on this Wednesday morning. Radar still shows some light precipitation (some a wintry mix) in a fairly wide band across Central Alabama moving almost due east.

However much of it is not reaching the ground.

Very few reports of precipitation from surface observations but that could change. Most humans are asleep at this very early hour so we could be missing some reports from our skywatchers.

CURRENT SPOT REPORTS
27 cloudy in Muscle Shoals and Decatur
31 cloudy in Tuscaloosa
29 cloudy in Birmingham
35 cloudy in Montgomery
31 cloudy in Anniston

It still feels very cold this morning because the wind is still brisk.

NEARBY STATES

* NWS, Jackson maintains as Winter Weather Advisory for South Mississippi, mainly I-20 southward. They will update that later this morning.

* To our east, the NWS, Atlanta issued a Winter Weather Advisory to be in effect from midnight Wednesday night until 10 am Thursday, mainly in eastern areas of the state. This includes places like Gainesville, Athens, Conyers and Lawrenceville. This may include some freezing rain.

NATIONAL
One of the coldest temperatures in the Lower 48 early this morning was 18 below zero at Craig, in NW Colorado. It was as low as -9 in Wisconsin. We will be able to fine colder temperatures when we make a search later this morning. The very coldest part of this huge arctic airmass as shifted even more over into Eastern Canada.

51 BELOW ZERO
John Oldshue reminded us that the temperature dropped to 51 below zero at West Yellowstone, Mont., this past weekend. I am sure that is the coldest so far this winter in the entire Lower 48!

Much more information will be posted on this ABC 33/40 weather blog as this Wednesday unfolds. Stay tuned.
