PLEASANT AFTERNOON: Temperatures are mostly in the low to mid 80s across Alabama this afternoon… Birmingham reports 81 degrees at 2:00… which is five degrees below average. The dew point is 53, and the relative humidity a low 37 percent.

THE DAYS AHEAD: Not much change through Thursday, with mostly sunny warm days and clear pleasant nights. A pretty good chance we reach the 50s again early tomorrow; highs will be in the 80s.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Moisture levels will slowly rise, and we will mention a small risk of a shower Saturday. Don’t think rain will be an issue for the high school football games Thursday and Friday night. Then, for the weekend, we will mention a chance of scattered showers and storms both Saturday and Sunday. It won’t rain all weekend, and the sun could be out at times. Just keep in mind a passing shower or storm is possible a time or two on both day, although the 12Z GFS looks pretty dry for Sunday. Highs will hold in the 80s.

LAST OF THE 90S? Tempting to say it, but I think it is a little too early. While we don’t see any evidence of 90 degree heat for the next 15 days on global models, we all know it can be hot at times well into September. In fact, we have seen 90 degrees as late as October 17 in Birmingham; we reached 91 on October 17, 1897. And, no, I wasn’t doing the weather back them.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: A little early in the week, but I am already getting questions for those traveling to Fayetteville for Alabama’s game against the “Hogs”… for now it looks like a partly sunny day with only a slight risk of a shower; the high Saturday will be in the mid to upper 70s. And, for Auburn’s home game against ULM… there is about a one in three chance of a shower during the game; the high in Auburn will be close to 80. We will be much more specific later in the week.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. We will produce tonight’s show at 8:30 p.m. CDT… you can watch here.
