An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

BLUE SKY AND SUNSHINE: We begin this Tuesday with clear and cool weather across the great state of Alabama; coolest spots I can find at 5:00 a.m. are Fort Payne and Valley Head, both in DeKalb County, with 41 degrees. We warm nicely into the mid 70s today with a good supply of sunshine. The humidity will stay low. Tomorrow promises to be a nice day as well with a high in the upper 70s.

NEXT RAIN EVENT: The next upper trough will bring a band of showers in here early Thursday morning. We continue to note that SPC has the standard “slight risk” of severe weather up for tomorrow night over the Mid-South, including places like Memphis and the Mississippi Delta, but with the lack of moisture and instability, I don’t expect a severe weather issue when that thunderstorm complex arrives in Alabama Thursday. In fact, I am not sure we hear much thunder.

The latest GFS runs suggest a quick hitting batch of showers, generally in the 2:00 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. time frame Thursday. Then, the sky clears Thursday afternoon as a northerly flow returns, and a deep upper low sets up north of our state. Thursday will be cooler; we will have a hard time getting out of the 60s if clouds stick around most of the day.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Doesn’t get much better. Sunny comfortable days, clear cool nights. Highs mostly in the 70s; the coolest morning should come early Saturday when low 40s are likely, with 30s across the colder valleys and protected areas of North Alabama. The dry weather should last into early next week.

TROPICS: Hurricane Paul in the eastern Pacific will approach Baja California tonight in a weakening state; high clouds from this system will continue to cover much of Texas today. And, in the Atlantic, Rafael has become a hurricane… it will pass well east of Bermuda tonight and then recurve in the North Atlantic. See the Weather Xtreme video for graphics and details.

FOOTBALL PREVIEW: Alabama and Auburn are playing in Tennessee this weekend; Auburn will take on Vanderbilt in Nashville (11:21 a.m. kickoff), while Alabama will play the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville at 6:00 p.m. The weather will be fine at both game sites; for the Auburn game temperatures will rise through the 60s with a sunny sky. Alabama’s game will kick off with a temperature near 60 degrees, then falling through the 50s during the game.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. We will have the final produced audio version of the show available tonight; you can watch the recorded video version in the right sidebar of the blog now.
