Cold Start To November

WARMER DAYS AHEAD: Today will be very similar to yesterday; expect a high in the mid 60s with a good supply of sunshine. We stay dry tomorrow and Sunday with warmer afternoons; we reach the mid 70s tomorrow, and upper 70s are possible Saturday, which will be our warmest day this weekend.

NEXT CHANCE OF RAIN: An upper trough will bring a chance of showers to Alabama Sunday. Still looks like a light rain event, with totals generally under 1/4 inch. The rain won’t be continuous, but a shower or two is likely during the day. Then, cooler and drier air arrives Monday as our high drops to near 60 degrees with a cool north breeze and a clearing sky.

The weather for the rest of next week looks generally rain-free with sunny pleasant days and clear chilly nights.

VOODOO LAND: The GFS hints at some risk of strong storms across Alabama in the Nov 10-11 time frame, thanks to a deep upper trough and cold front combo. There has been some consistency in this idea, and we do have to remember this is fall tornado season, which runs from the first of November through mid-December.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Great weather for the high school football games tonight and Friday night. Clear with temperatures falling through the 60s during the first half, and into the 50s during the second half of the games across North and Central Alabama.

Saturday, Auburn hosts New Mexico State (11:30 a.m. kickoff); the sky will be mostly sunny with a kickoff temperature near 72 degrees, rising into the mid 70s by the final whistle. Alabama will be in Baton Rouge to take on LSU (7:00 p.m. kickoff)… the sky will be mostly cloudy with about a one in five risk of shower during the game. Temperatures will fall from the upper 70s at kickoff into the low 70s by the fourth quarter. And, UAB will at Southern Miss (6:30 p.m. kickoff); there will be some clouds around, but only a small risk of a shower. Temperatures will fall from 76 at kickoff to 72 by the game’s end.
