**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today**

The Friday afternoon discussion today is courtesy of my colleague J.B. Elliott….

FAIRLY NICE WEATHER FOR SEVEN MORE DAYS: Not perfect weather, mind you, because we are introducing the chance of some showers and maybe a few thunderstorms Sunday, Monday and Tuesday–not a big rain event and temperatures will be rather comfortable. Before that we look for mostly dry weather and warmer temperatures Saturday and Sunday with highs in the low 80s on Saturday and in the 70s on Sunday.

It was cool across Alabama again last night, but not as cold as on previous nights. In some of the colder spots of North Alabama, it was 25 at Valley Head, 27 in Hamilton and 28 in Russellville. Guntersville had 33 and Ft. Payne 38. It was very uncomfortable in the storm ravaged area of the Northeast for two reasons: the temperatures were fairly low, but power outages were so extensive that almost no one had heat or light. I really feel for those folks. They are going through some of the worst heartbreaks imaginable.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: For high school games tonight, temperatures will be in the 60s through the first half of most games around the state cooling to the 50s in the second half. On Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Auburn hosts New Mexico State. It should be mostly sunshine with a kick-off temperature around 73 with temperatures rather steady through the second half. Alabama will be in Baton Rouge to take on LSU at 7:00 p.m. The sky will be mostly cloudy with about a 1 in 5 risk of a shower during the game. Temperatures will fall from the upper 70s at kickoff into the low 70s by the fourth quarter. And, UAB will be at Southern Miss for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff. There will be some clouds around, but only a small risk of a shower. Temperatures will fall from 76 at kickoff to 72 by the game’s end.

SUFFERING IN THE BIG APPLE: It is some of the worst I have ever seen and it is not limited to the immediate New York City area. All of New Jersey is also suffering as well as Connecticut and other areas. I was especially saddened to hear that two young boys were swept away and were later found dead in a marsh. The lines waiting to buy gasoline are miles long and police had to be dispatched to prevent some fights. The New York City marathon is going to be run regardless of the protests. It goes through every New York City borough. Over half of the gas stations in the area have no power, so they can’t pump gas. We must mention that there is an outside chance of another significant storm along the Mid-Atlantic Coast at midweek, possibly just off the Virginia and Maryland coastline, but it will not compare to what transpired with this last one.

OTHER USA NOTES: The hottest in the country yesterday was 91 at several South Texas locations including Bay City and Laredo. Coldest this morning was 16 at Black River Falls and Silver Bay, Minnesota. We must not forget West Virginia where six people have died in a very early season blizzard. The snow is 6-feet deep in some of the mountain areas and residents are suffering from no power almost as bad as the New York City area.
