A Cold Night Ahead

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player on the right sidebar of the blog. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

FRIGID FRIDAY: As expected, most communities north of Birmingham are not out of the 30s this afternoon. In fact, Decatur has yet to rise above freezing; they report 32 degrees at 2:00. Birmingham is at 42 degrees with a chilly north breeze averaging 8 mph. We also note the air is very dry… the dewpoint at Haleyville at 2:00 is only 6!

Temperatures will drop quickly tonight; most places will see a low in the mid 20s early tomorrow, but the colder valleys should reach the 18-22 degree range with a clear sky and light wind.

CLOUDS RETURN TOMORROW: Clouds will increase Saturday ahead of a cold front, and we will mention the chance of a little scattered light rain late in the day and Saturday evening. Moisture will be very limited, and where rain falls the amounts should be under one-tenth of an inch. Then, we will have sunshine back in full force on Sunday. The high should be in the mid 50s both days.

NEXT WEEK: Monday will be dry with a high between 57 and 60, then on Tuesday we will mention the chance of a few passing showers thanks to a compact disturbance moving in from the west. Rain amounts on Tuesday should be fairly light with only limited moisture. Then, Wednesday and Thursday look dry with a high at or just over 60 degrees both days.

A decent rain event still looks to unfold the following weekend (2/9-10)… see the Weather Xtreme video for the details, graphics, and maps.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
