Wet Evening and Night

| February 21, 2013 @ 5:17 pm

Heavy rain and a few rumbles of thunder have moved into Alabama this afternoon and evening and it is shaping up to be a wet night. Heavy rain is falling mostly along and north of Interstate 20/59. Rain is falling in the Birmingham metro currently and much heavier rain is off to our west in Mississippi. Heading north along I-65 from downtown Birmingham, it looks to be a wet drive all the way into the Ohio River Valley. The are a few severe storms on the southern side of this rain complex. Not expecting much in the way of severe weather in Central Alabama tonight, but just be aware some of our southern counties may see some strong storms. We will have to watch for a flooding threat as many areas continue to have very saturated grounds and many locations have a surplus of several inches of rainfall this year already. Rain fall totals could be anywhere from half and inch to an inch. Be careful this evening and tonight as roads will be slick.

The rain should last much for several hours tonight, and should get out of here by mid-morning tomorrow. Maybe a few lingering showers in our southeastern counties. Most of Friday should be dry but clouds will stick around. Rain chances go back up tomorrow evening as another impulse moves across Alabama. For the weekend it looks to be sunny and dry, with cooler temperatures.
