An arc of light showers continues to lift northward late this morning across Central Alabama.

It extends from Lawrence and Winston Counties southeastward through Cullman into Blount, northeastern Jefferson and western St. Clair Counties.

The showers will pass just west of the Talladega Superspeedway, meaning a rainfree start to the race within the hour.

Showers should start to increase in the next hour in the area along I-20 east of Birmingham and push north. Rain could become heavy over Northeast Alabama late this afternoon.

A few showers will be likely at the Speedway through the afternoon. Hopefully, they will not be prolonged enough to threaten the race. Do look for a couple of delays however.

The showers over Northeast Mississippi and northwestern Alabama will increase in coverage as well.

Temperatures are in the upper 50s over East Alabama, while lower to middle 50s prevail the further west you go thanks to heavier clouds.
