FINALLY WILL FEEL LIKE SPRING: Another cool morning across Alabama, but not as cold as yesterday. Don’t see any 30s… Vic Bell at Black Creek in Etowah County reports 40… Valley Head and Fort Payne are at 43. We warm quickly today with a sunny sky, and most places will enjoy a high in the low 80s this afternoon, finally back to average values for the middle of May in Alabama.

Tomorrow will be another sunny and warm day with a high in the mid 80s.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY: The remnant energy from the current upper low over the Gulf of California will bring the risk of a few scattered showers to the northern half of Alabama on these two days. Nothing really heavy or organized, and the best chance of a shower, as usual this time of the year, will come during the afternoon and evening hours. Otherwise, we expect a mix of sun and clouds both days, with a high in the mid 80s.

OUR WEEKEND: Still looking generally dry and warm. I guess there could be a blip or two on radar Saturday, but the chance of any one neighborhood getting wet is so small we won’t mention it in the forecast for now. The sky will be partly to mostly sunny both days, and the high will remain in the mid 80s; some West Alabama communities could see upper 80s. Should be the warmest weekend so far in 2013.

A weakening cold front could bring a chance of showers or storms to Alabama early next week, but for now we are less than impressed with severe weather potential with the main dynamic forcing well to the north.

BEACH TRIP: We note record Lows in the Florida panhandle this morning: Tallahassee (45º), Apalachicola (52º) and Panama City (50º). But, the weather look fantastic in coming days… mostly sunny afternoons, clear nights through the weekend. I guess we should mention the risk of isolated showers Thursday, but the chance of any one place getting wet from Panama City to Gulf Shores is only about one in five. Highs almost the immediate coast will be in the upper 70s, with 80s just a mile or two inland. The sea water temperature this morning at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is a cool 69 degrees. Needless to say, fantastic weather for this weekend’s Hangout Music Festival at Gulf Shores.
