A Warm and Sunny Sunday

You couldn’t ask for much nicer weather for the Memorial Day weekend across Central Alabama. Lots of blue skies with just some patchy high cirrostratus clouds drifting across. Temperatures dad reached 80F at all locations by 2 p.m.

Dewpoint have risen slowly over the past 24 hours. Morning dewpoints were in the lower 50s, about 5-7 degrees higher than those of yesterday. Now that the atmosphere has become mixed with all of the daytime heating, dewpoints have receded back into the upper 40s, quite comfortable even with the warm temperatures.

The nearest rain to Alabama is some scattered shower activity over Arkansas and northeastern Texas where a weakening upper trough is falling apart. Expect more blow off clouds from that activity through the afternoon hours.

Expect dewpoints overnight to run even 3-5 degrees warmer than those of last night as moisture slowly is pumped into the area by high pressure to our east. This will keep overnight lows tonight mainly in the 58-62F range. That will be a few degrees warmer than last night’s 53-57F. The closer spread between temperature and dewpoint tonight may also allow for a little patchy fog.

In any case, it will make for a nice start to a beautiful Memorial Day as we sort of unofficially kick off the summer season. Expect partly cloudy skies and highs in the middle and upper 80s tomorrow.

More of the same is in store for the rest of the week as high pressure remains in control of Alabama’s weather. The next rain chances look like they will come late next Sunday into the first part of the following week.
