Excitement is building as another prominent meteorologist will be coming to speak in Central Alabama to the local NWA Chapter. Greg Carbin, the Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, will be the guest speaker at the Chapter’s next meeting.

Severe weather impacts the U.S. and Alabama every month of the year. Each severe weather event provides details that are essential to expand research on the cause and effect of severe weather. From this research, improved forecasts can be issued and better insight gained for preparedness when severe weather hits. Mr. Carbin is one of the top researchers in the country as well as a spokesperson for the SPC. His latest and ongoing research of tornadoes and severe weather are the topics he will be speaking on at the Chapter meeting.

The meeting will be Monday night, September 9, 2013 from 7:00-8:30PM at the Homewood Suites in Hoover, Alabama. The hotel, which is located in the Riverchase community of Hoover, is thrilled to partner with the Chapter for this event. The Homewood Suites is located just off Valleydale Road at 121 Riverchase Parkway East, Hoover, AL 35244. There is ample free parking at the hotel and doors will open at 6:30PM.

Greg will be the guest of the Chapter while he is in town. The goal of the Central Alabama National Weather Association Chapter is to increase weather awareness and education. Members have plenty of opportunities to interface, network and work together in a relaxed setting. This will advance the understanding of each other’s roles and foster personal relationships that could prove advantageous when skies turn threatening. There are abundant opportunities to get involved in leadership through committees and officer positions.

The Central Alabama Chapter of the NWA is looking forward to a big turnout to hear this great presentation. The event is free for Chapter members and guests may attend for $15 each. RSVP for this event and join the Chapter by visiting the Chapter’s Homepage .

Local dues are just $25, which allows members to attend all events. Dues can be paid online with credit card or PayPal ($1.06 processing fee), or by check or cash in person at a meeting or by mail.

Along with speaking at the Chapter meeting during his visit, Mr. Carbin, will also visit the local National Weather Service Office in Birmingham.
