Weekend Could Start Wet

| September 17, 2013 @ 2:42 pm

**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today; traveling to Tuscaloosa for live weather at 4, 5, and 6 at the “Be Ready Tuscaloosa” day in the parking lot of Belle Foods on McFarland Blvd**

MOSTLY DRY: Most of the showers across Alabama today over the southeast counties, although one lone shower has popped up north of Tallassee, or just south of Lake Martin. Most of North Alabama is dry, and temperatures are mostly in the upper 80s.

While a few showers could show up tomorrow afternoon ahead of a “back door” type from moving in from the northeast, the rain won’t be widespread. Temperatures will be cooler tomorrow with a high in the low 80s, and clouds could form tomorrow morning with an easterly flow.

Generally dry weather is the story Thursday and Friday with highs remaining in the 80s.

RAIN ON SATURDAY: The 12Z GFS still looks fairly wet for Saturday…

An approaching front from the northwest, and a surface low on the Louisiana coast could set up a rather wet day. I don’t think it rains all day, but it could rain at any hour of the day Saturday, and some thunder is possible as well. We won’t get out of the 70s because of the clouds and rain.

It will be a close call for the Alabama/Colorado State game in Tuscaloosa Saturday evening, but I think we will to still mention a chance of rain, at least for the first half of the game (kickoff 6 p.m. CT). We will fine tune the timing of the rain as the weekend gets closer.

Drier air returns Sunday with lots of sun and a high in the low 80s.

The first few days of next week look dry with highs in the 80s.

TROPICS: A disturbance near Central America could become Tropical Storm Jerry in the Bay of Campeche later this week…

But, it most likely heads for Mexico… no threat to the Central Gulf Coast…
