Early Evening Radar Check

| October 31, 2013 @ 5:13 pm

A quick radar check this evening continues to show the large rain mass to our west slowly working its way into western portions of the state. Rain is now falling in Tuscaloosa, Jasper, Cullman, and Huntsville. The rain will continue to move east the next few hours and we are all in for a soaker of a night. Birmingham the rain should begin by 7PM, while Anniston and Gadsden will likely see the rain start closer to 8PM.

Rain will be heavy at times and once it starts at your location is it will last several hours. There could be a few storms embedded within the rain shield, but with the clouds and and lack of daytime heating today, instabilities are very low. For this reason the severe weather threat is almost non-existent. With any storms tonight, there could be some gusty winds, but the main weather story tonight will be the soaking rain. Most of Alabama has been relatively dry the last few weeks, so the ground will be able to absorb most of the rain that falls. There will be some ponding on the roadways, and in the right circumstances there could be some very isolated areas of flash flooding. The rain will last through the overnight hours.
