FINE WINTER DAY: What a delightful day across Alabama; sunshine in full supply with temperatures generally between 58 and 62 degrees at mid-afternoon. But, don’t get used to it.

COLD FRONT ON THE WAY: Much colder air invades Alabama late tonight and tomorrow. With the front, we might see a touch of light rain late tonight, and we will maintain the risk of a few snow flurries or snow showers tomorrow. The 12Z model set has come in drier, and odds of any accumulation remain very small. But, we will keep an eye on radar for the heavier snow showers that might make the ground white in a few spots, on grassy areas.

So, any snow tomorrow should be mainly “conversational”, and won’t create any travel issues. Best chance of seeing a little dusting, or light accumulation, will be across the high terrain of Northeast Alabama, especially above 1,000 feet.

TENNESSEE/GEORGIA: We do note a few counties over the Cumberland Plateau of Tennessee, and far North Georgia (well north of Atlanta) are under winter weather advisories for late tonight and tomorrow where there could be some light snow accumulation.

The high tomorrow around here will be only in the low 40s with a chilly northwest wind of 15-25 mph, which will make it feel colder.

We drop down into the low 20s by early Thursday morning… the we warm into the upper 40s Thursday afternoon with a good supply of sunshine.

MORE COLD AIR ON FRIDAY: The next Clipper system will bring another shot of cold air in here on Friday; the high will be around 40 with a biting northwest wind. Maybe a few light snow flurries early Friday morning, but nothing really significant as the air will be dry.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: We begin the weekend with a low in the 17-24 degree range early Saturday… after that we will enjoy a sunny sky both Saturday and Sunday with a high generally in the low 50s.

NEXT WEEK: We warm to near 60 degrees Monday and Tuesday, but the next shot of cold air is due in here Wednesday night and Thursday. The current upper air pattern suggests the cold air shots won’t last especially long over the rest of the month; see the Weather Xtreme video for the maps, graphics, and more details.
