The Heat Continues

The latest edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme Video is available in the player below and via iTunes.

Edouard moving along the northern Gulf Coast while heat continues across the Central US. In the meantime, it is just plain hot and humid across Central Alabama. As Edouard moves away we’ll get into the region of sinking air around the storm which should help to suppress any shower development. The large upper ridge is also nosing into the Southeast adding to the heat situation.

The ridge will continue through the middle of the week but as the trough over the eastern US begins to deepen we expect to see a weak front come into the area Friday and Saturday. Shower chances should increase Wednesday as moisture increases again as Edouard gets further away. And the weak front promises our best chance for rain to come in the Thursday-Friday time frame, probably Friday.

Showers are expected to remain scattered next weekend. And as we edge into voodoo territory, a deepening East Coast trough promises to reduce thickness values and take the edge off the heat. That East Coast troughiness is forecast to stick with us meaning no real sign of excessive heat.

Edouard weakened overnight but was showing some signs of intensifying this morning. Drier air from over the land was limiting convection primarily to the eastern side of the storm, and that drier air will continue to be a problem for the storm. Due to the warm water, Edouard could become a minimal hurricane before making landfall on the Upper Texas Coast. And rain could be heavy along the track of the storm with 4 to 5 inches expected. Edouard will be the second tropical system of the season to affect Texas.

I’ll have another Weather Xtreme Video around 8:30 am or so tomorrow morning as I continue to fill in for Jason Simpson. I hope you have a great Monday. God bless.
