Severe Clear This Afternoon

| September 14, 2015 @ 3:35 pm

FINE DAY: Hard to find a cloud in the sky across the great state of Alabama this afternoon; temperatures are mostly in the upper 70s… the humidity is low, and visibility is excellent. Tonight will be another pleasant night with a low in the mid to upper 50s early tomorrow for most communities.

REST OF THE WEEK: A warming trend will headline the forecast through Friday; we project mid 80s tomorrow and Wednesday, followed by upper 80s Thursday and Friday. Each day will feature a good supply of sunshine through scattered clouds. A few showers could show up over the far southern counties of the state later this week, but North-Central Alabama looks rain-free.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Saturday will be warm with a partly sunny sky; the high will be in the upper 80s…. some West Alabama communities could touch 90. A few isolated showers are possible over far North Alabama Sunday thanks to an approaching cold front, but with an upper ridge in place, it sure won’t be a big rain event. And, most of North-Central Alabama stays dry. The weather remains warm Sunday with a high in the upper 80s.

The latest GFS run (12Z) hints that we will have a better chance of scattered showers and storms early next week thanks to a short wave approaching from the west; see the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: At this point it looks mostly clear for the Alabama/Ole Miss game Saturday night in Tuscaloosa with a kickoff temperature near 80 degrees (8:15p CT), falling through the 70s during the game. Auburn travels to Baton Rouge to play LSU Saturday… kickoff is at 2:30. Just a slight risk of a shower or thunderstorm, and the weather will be hot with about 90 degrees at kickoff.

TROPICS: No sign of any immediate tropical issues for the U.S… a disturbance in the Southwest Gulf of Mexico will most likely drift into Mexico without development. Other waves in the Central and East Atlantic will stay far from land.

AT THE BEACH: About 5 to 7 hours of sunshine tomorrow through Friday with the risk of a passing shower or storm from time to time; highs from Gulf Shores east to Panama City Beach will be mostly in the mid to upper 80s, with sea water temperatures in the low 80s.
