Warm Weekend Ahead; Mostly Dry

| September 18, 2015 @ 2:57 pm

WARM SEPTEMBER AFTERNOON: Temperatures are in the 80s across Alabama this afternoon… in many places a little above the average of 84 degrees for September 18…

Temperatures

No rain on radar, and the sky will remain mostly clear tonight.

THE WEEKEND: The weather stays very warm with afternoon highs in the 87 to 90 degree range. Tomorrow will be dry with a partly sunny sky, but tomorrow night a few isolated showers could creep down into Northwest Alabama ahead of a weak surface front to the north. Then, on Sunday, we will mention isolated showers during the afternoon hours over North/Central Alabama, but the chance of any one spot getting wet is rather small.

NEXT WEEK: Widely scattered showers are possible Monday through Wednesday, with mostly dry weather Thursday and Friday. Highs will drop into the low to mid 80s, right at seasonal averages. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Expect a clear sky for the high school games tonight with temperatures falling through the 70s. No lightning delays this week.

The sky will be mostly fair for the Alabama/Ole Miss game tomorrow night in Tuscaloosa with a kickoff temperature near 78 degrees (8:15p CT), falling through the 70s during the game. As noted above, the chance of rain is not completely zero for this game, but for now we will leave the risk of showers out of the forecast. Auburn travels to Baton Rouge to play LSU tomorrow… kickoff is at 2:30. It will feel more like summer with 92 degrees at kickoff with a mostly sunny sky.

TROPICS: Tropical Depression Nine is fading away this afternoon in the Central Atlantic, but we now have Tropical Depression Ten on the board; it could become Tropical Storm Ida in coming days, but it is expected to remain far from land.

A wave east of Daytona Beach, Florida could develop slowly in coming days as it moves northeast slowly. It won’t have any impact on Alabama.

AT THE BEACH: About 7 to 9 hours of sunshine daily through early next week from Gulf Shores east to Panama City Beach, with a few widely scattered showers or thunderstorms. Highs in the 80s, sea water temperatures in the 78-82 degree range.
