Alabama’s Most Detailed Seven Day Forecast

RAIN & STORMS: The SPC maintains the “marginal risk” (level 1 of 5) of severe storms today for Alabama as a boundary dropping south, is producing numerous showers and storms across Alabama. Stronger storms today will produce strong, gusty winds and hail. Also, expect lots of lightning, and as in recent days, intense tropical downpours will likely lead to areas of flash flooding. A midday check of the radar shows a very wet day ongoing across much of North and Central Alabama. These showers and storms will continue to drop south through the state the rest of today. Ahead of the rain and storms, temperatures are in the 80s, but where it is raining, temperatures are holding in the 70s.

BIRMINGHAM ALMANAC: For June 19th, the average high for Birmingham is 89° and the average low is 69°. The record high is 101° set in 1936, while the record low is 54° set in 1965. We average 0.16” of precipitation on this date and the record value is 4.36” set in 2021.

HOTTER TEMPS AHEAD: An upper ridge begins developing and will bring rising heat levels and a lower coverage of afternoon storms tomorrow and through the weekend. Highs will climb into the low to mid 90s and it looks to be hottest weather so far this year for Alabama, the Deep South, the Midwest along with Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, where heat advisories and extreme heat watches are in effect. Showers and storms will become more isolated in nature with rain chances in the 10-20% range. Heat index values this weekend will like climb into the low 100s for many locations.

NEXT WEEK: For now, fairly routine late June weather for Alabama…partly sunny, hot and humid days, with highs in the low to mid 90s. Each day will continue to feature random, scattered, mainly afternoon and evening showers and storms.
