SUNNY, BREEZY, COOL DAY: Despite a good supply of sunshine, temperatures well below average across Alabama this afternoon, mostly in the 50s and 60s. Birmingham reports 55 degrees at 2:00 p.m… the average high for March 13 is 66. A freeze warning is in effect tonight for all of North and Central Alabama, where lows will dip into the 25-35 degree range early tomorrow morning.
COLD: As advertised, temperatures are much colder across Alabama this afternoon. In fact, a few spots are holding in the 30s over the northern third of the state with lingering clouds and a gusty north wind. Those clouds will dissipate this evening, and tonight will be clear and cold with temperatures dropping into the 20s by daybreak tomorrow.
DRY THROUGH SATURDAY: Nothing on radar this afternoon; the sky is partly sunny over the northern half of the state, with sunshine in full supply over the southern counties. Temperatures are in the 40s across North Alabama, about ten degrees below average for January 26.
COLD WINTER DAY: Clouds cover the northern half of Alabama early this morning, and we will maintain the risk of a few sprinkles or flurries through mid-morning. Temperatures are mostly in the mid to upper 30s at daybreak; expect a high toady in the 46-55 degree range with some sun breaking through the clouds this afternoon.
COLD WINTER DAY: Clouds cover much of Alabama this afternoon, although we are seeing some sun over parts of East and South Alabama. Temperatures have been slowly falling since this morning; we have 40s over the northern counties of the state, with 50s to the south.
COLD WINTER DAY: Temperatures are only in the mid to upper 30s across the northern half of Alabama this afternoon with clouds and a few light snow flurries. The sun is out across Southwest Alabama, where some spots have reached 50 degrees. Tonight will be clear and cold with a low in the 20s in most spots.
SHARPLY COLDER: Much colder air will roll into Alabama with a brisk north wind; temperatures will hold in the 40s over the northern half of the state, with low to mid 50s for the southern counties. As a deep, cold core upper trough passes overhead, a few sprinkles or snow flurries are possible… but no impact or accumulation is expected.

BIG TIME COLD: Temperatures across North Alabama are in the 4-14 degree range early this morning, with wind chills as low as -15F. Mobile is now below freezing, and in Dothan temperatures are falling fast. Lingering snow flurries will end soon, and today will be mostly sunny and windy with temperatures remaining well below freezing over the northern 3/4 of the state.
BITTERLY COLD AIR GETTING CLOSE: While most of Alabama is overcast this afternoon, the sky has cleared temporarily over some of the western counties at mid-afternoon. Temperatures are mostly in the 50s, but the coldest air in several years will invade Alabama tonight. The Arctic front is approaching Memphis as I write this.
BITTERLY COLD AIR GETTING CLOSE: Temperatures will reach the 55-61 degree range across Alabama this afternoon with a mostly cloudy sky; most of the day will be dry, and the sun could peek out in spots this afternoon. Enjoy these temperatures as the long awaited Arctic front will enter the northwest corner of the state around 6-7p CT.
RADAR CHECK: This has been a cold, cloudy, wet day for Alabama, and rain continues to fall this afternoon mainly along and south of I-20. Rain will end this evening as a disturbance in the northern Gulf moves northeast. Temperatures are in the 40-45 degree range for most communities this afternoon; the average high for Birmingham on December 20 is 56.
RADAR CHECK: Light rain is moving into Alabama this afternoon; some sleet was mixed with the rain as it started to fall over parts of West Alabama earlier this afternoon. Expect periods of rain through tomorrow; the most widespread rain will be over the southern half of the state… amounts should be generally under 1/2 inch. Otherwise, it will be cloudy and cold through tomorrow.
A bitterly cold, Arctic airmass will invade the Deep South Thursday night, and will persist through the Christmas weekend.
