RADAR CHECK: A band of showers in association with a cold front is working through the state early this morning; these showers should be out of the northern half of the state by mid-morning, and we expect a clearing sky this afternoon. Showers could linger over the southeast counties during the afternoon hours, but rain amounts there will be very light and spotty.
CALMER DAY: The cold front that brought showers and storms to Alabama yesterday has moved out of the state, and today will be drier and cooler. With a partly to mostly sunny sky, we project a high in the 65-70 degree range this afternoon. The average high for Birmingham on April 7 is 73.
RADAR CHECK: A band of gusty showers, and a few thunderstorms, is lined up from near Wedowee to Prattville at 3:00 p.m. CT… this is ahead of a cold front that is pushing slowly southward. The showers have featured winds of 25-35 mph in spots, but no severe thunderstorms have formed across Alabama today as the main dynamic support remains well north of the state.
RADAR CHECK: Rain is falling across much of Alabama early this morning as a cold front pushes through the state. Temperatures have dropped into the 30s north of the front, but it is a mild morning for the southern half of the state where temperatures are in the 60s. The front will continue moving southward today, and the rain will end from north to south, followed by clearing this afternoon over the northern counties of the state.
RADAR CHECK: Rain continues across South Alabama early this morning ahead of a cold front… the rain will end over the next few hours, and the day will be breezy and cooler with a good supply of sunshine. Temperatures will hold in the 50s all day, and a brisk north wind of 10-20 mph will make it feel cooler.
RADAR CHECK: We have a few “illegal” showers over North Alabama early this morning (showers that weren’t in the forecast), those should dissipate by mid-morning. Otherwise, we expect a partly sunny sky today across the state with a high in the low 60s for most communities. The average high for November 2 at Birmingham is 70.
ON THE MAPS: A strong cold front is over the northwest corner of Alabama early this morning… a band of showers is along the front over the northern third of the state. The front will race through over the next few hours, and all of the showers should be out of the state by 9-10 a.m. Then, the sky becomes mostly sunny, and a northwest wind of 10-20 mph will usher in cooler and much drier air.
CLOUDY, COOL, CALM: The sky is mostly cloudy over the northern half of Alabama this afternoon with temperatures only in the 54-62 degree range. A few sprinkles, or patches of light rain are possible through the evening hours, but most of the state will be dry. Mostly cloudy and cool weather continues through tomorrow night, although South Alabama should see a decent amount of sun during the day tomorrow. The high tomorrow will be in the mid to upper 50s again.
RADAR CHECK: Showers and thunderstorms continue early this morning over far East and Southeast Alabama; a few severe storms were over the southeast corner of the state. A tornado warning was in effect for parts of Dale, Houston, and Henry counties just before daybreak.
COOLER, DRIER: Parts of Alabama are under a bright sunny sky this afternoon, but a few spots are seeing clouds hanging tough. The lingering clouds will dissipate soon thanks to sinking air motion, and tonight will be clear and cool with lows in the 40s.
BREEZY/COOLER AFTERNOON: A surface front is moving through Alabama this afternoon, setting up a big thermal contrast. Huntsville reports 66 degrees at mid-afternoon, while at the same time Ozark is up to 84. The sky is mostly sunny, although clouds have moved back into Northwest Alabama ahead of an upper trough helping to push the cooler air into the state. Clouds will cover the northern counties of the state at times tonight; the low will be in the mid 40s.
RADAR CHECK: We have some light rain early this morning over parts of West and North Alabama behind a cold front that is now over the southern part of the state. The rain will end within the next couple of hours, and the sky becomes sunny by late morning as much cooler air rolls into the Deep South. The high today will be only in the mid 60s; the average high for Birmingham on October 16 is 75.
COLD FRONT GETTING CLOSE: A cold front is near the northwest corner of Alabama this afternoon, behind the front Memphis reports only 63 degrees at 2p CT with a chilly northwest wind. But, ahead of the front, temperatures across Alabama are mostly in the 77-81 degree range with a partly to mostly sunny sky. The front will pass through in dry fashion tonight.
MUCH COOLER: A cold front passed through Alabama yesterday and last night, and temperatures today will be a good 10-20 degrees cooler than yesterday for most communities. Communities north of Birmingham most likely won’t get out of the 60s; highs will be in the 70s over the southern 2/3 of the state. And, a deep long wave upper trough is approaching the state this morning; this feature is still producing clouds and showers in scattered pockets.
