RADAR CHECK: Showers are over the northern third of Alabama early this morning; those are moving eastward and will be in Georgia by mid-morning. Additional scattered showers and thunderstorms will form this afternoon and tonight, but it certainly won’t rain all day today and you might see a peek or two of sun this afternoon. SHOWERS RETURN LATER TODAY/TONIGHT: Alabama remains dry early this morning, but we are watching a band of rain and storms along the Mississippi River to the west. That activity will likely fizzle out this morning, but new showers will form this afternoon, moving into the northwest part of the state.
RADAR CHECK: Scattered showers persist over North Alabama this afternoon with a mostly cloudy sky… temperatures there are in the 60s. But, to the south, the sky is partly too mostly sunny over the southern counties of the state with 70s. Showers will fade this evening, and the sky will become mostly fair statewide.
RADAR CHECK: Showers are in progress early this morning across parts of North and Central Alabama, under an upper low that is moving northeast. We will maintain the chance of scattered showers through the day with a mostly cloudy sky… expect a high in the 67-73 degree range this afternoon. The average high for Birmingham on April 14 is 75.
RADAR CHECK: Showers and thunderstorms continue to increase across Alabama this afternoon… heavier storms are producing small hail and gusty winds as they move northward. SPC maintains a “slight risk” (level 2/5) of severe thunderstorms for areas east and south of a line from Ashland to Greenville to Geneva. A “marginal risk” extends as far north as Winfield, Cullman, and Centre.
ON THE MAP: A well defined upper low is spinning away this morning over Louisiana, and on the east side of the system moisture air continues to move northward. Showers are fairly widespread across Central Alabama early this morning, and additional showers and a few thunderstorms will form this afternoon.
RADAR CHECK: A large area of rain with a few embedded thunderstorms is moving across North Alabama at mid-afternoon… the rain is near a very slow moving surface front that has set up a wide range of weather conditions today. Temperatures are in the 60s north and west of the front, but to the south we seeing 80 again over the southern 2/3 of the state.
SLOW MOVING FRONT: We will have a wide range of weather conditions across Alabama today thanks to a very slow moving front near the northwest corner of the state early this morning. The most widespread rain today will be over the northwest counties near the front, but scattered showers and storms will form statewide this afternoon as the air becomes unstable with the daytime heating process.
RADAR CHECK: We have a few scattered showers across East and South Alabama at mid-afternoon, but much of the state is dry. A warm front is moving slowly northward; we have a big temperature contrast on either side of the front. Mobile is up to 84 degrees at 2:00p CT, while Huntsville is at 61 on the north side of the front.
RADAR CHECK: Showers and thunderstorms continue across Alabama this afternoon, mostly over the central counties of the state. Stronger storms are producing some small hail and heavy rain as they move eastward.
WET AT TIMES: We expect periods of rain across Alabama through tonight with a cloudy sky… a few thunderstorms are possible as well. SPC maintains a low end “marginal risk” (level 1/5) of severe storms for parts of West Alabama this afternoon. A warm front will be in the area and a few storms could produce gusty winds near the boundary.
RADAR CHECK: Rain is fairly widespread over the northern half of Alabama this afternoon with temperatures in the 57-65 degree range… South Alabama is drier and warmer with only isolated showers. To the west, a significant severe weather event is likely across the ArkLaTex region this evening and tonight thanks to a very dynamic weather system over Texas, and those storms will push into Alabama tomorrow morning.
RADAR CHECK: There are a spotty showers across Central Alabama this afternoon… otherwise we have a mix of sun and clouds with temperatures mostly in the 70s. Showers tonight will likely remain few and far between; the sky will be mostly cloudy with a low in the 55-65 degree range.
