COOLER AIR ARRIVES LATER THIS WEEK: We expect a high in the 87-93 degree range across Alabama today with a partly sunny sky; a few isolated showers are possible this afternoon and early tonight, mainly over the eastern and southern counties. We note the average high for Birmingham on September 11 is 87.
RADAR CHECK: Thunderstorms continue to increase across the southern half of Alabama at mid-afternoon… generally south of a line from Chatom to Montgomery to Opelika. A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for South Alabama through 8:00 p.m… heavier storms will be capable of producing hail and strong winds.
RADAR CHECK: A band of strong storms continues to drop southward early this morning across far South Alabama; they will fade over the next few hours. Additional showers and thunderstorms will develop this afternoon, mainly over the southern half of the state, and SPC maintains a “slight risk” (level 2/5) of severe storms for Southwest Alabama, with a “marginal risk” (level 1/5) as far north as Greensboro, Wetumpka, and Phenix City.
A FEW STORMS THIS AFTERNOON: With a partly sunny, hazy sky we are forecasting a high in the mid to upper 80s for most places today, right at seasonal averages for early June in Alabama. Once again we will mention the chance of a few isolated storms this afternoon; the chance of any one spot seeing rain is in the 10-20 percent range.
JUST A FEW ISOLATED SHOWERS: We have just a few isolated showers and thunderstorms across Alabama this afternoon over the southern 2/3 of the state. Otherwise, the sky is partly too mostly sunny with temperatures in the 88-91 degree range for most places. The showers will end soon after sunset, and tonight will be mostly fair with a low in the 60s.
RADAR CHECK: A few isolated showers and storms are in progress across parts of the Tennessee Valley of North Alabama, and also near the Gulf Coast at mid-afternoon. The rest of Alabama is dry with a mostly sunny sky… temperatures are in the 86-91 degree range.
CLASSIC JUNE WEATHER: Alabama’s weather won’t change much through mid-week… partly to mostly sunny days, fair nights, and a few random, widely scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms. The chance of any one spot seeing rain through Thursday is 15-25 percent, and most of the storms will form from 2:00 until 9:00 p.m.
RADAR CHECK: We have a few widely scattered showers and storms this afternoon over parts of North and West Alabama, otherwise the sky is partly to mostly sunny with temperatures mostly in the 85-90 degree range. Showers will end this evening, and tonight will be mostly fair with a low in the 60s
FEELING LIKE SUMMER: We project afternoon highs in the 87-92 degree range through the weekend with partly sunny days and fair nights. The summer feel to the weather is here with higher heat and humidity levels. And, as is usually the case, we will have a few isolated showers around. We note a couple of them early this morning over North Alabama, but most of the showers will come from 2:00 until 9:00 p.m.
RADAR CHECK: As expected, most of Alabama is dry this afternoon with only small, isolated showers moving westward. Temperatures are mostly in the mid 80s, very close to seasonal averages for the first day of meteorological summer. The isolated showers will end after sunset, and tonight will be mostly fair with a low in the 60s.
CALM DAYS: Welcome to meteorological summer. This is also the first day of the Atlantic basin hurricane season… and Alabama’s weather will remain calm through the weekend. We expect partly sunny days, fair nights, and only isolated afternoon and evening showers. Chance of any one spot seeing a brief shower each day is only 10-20 percent generally between 2:00 and 9:00 p.m.
RADAR CHECK: We have a few small, isolated showers across Alabama this afternoon moving northwest; these won’t last long and will all dissipate after sunset. Otherwise, we have a partly sunny sky with temperatures mostly in the 80s. Tonight will be fair with a low in the 60s.
TRENDING WARMER: We are forecasting highs in the 84-87 degree range across Alabama today, right at seasonal averages for the last day of May. The sky will be partly sunny, and a few isolated showers or storms could form this afternoon and early tonight. Chance of any one spot seeing rain is around 20 percent.
THIS AFTERNOON: The sky is partly too mostly sunny across Alabama this afternoon with temperatures mostly in the 80-85 degree range, a little below average for late May. Nothing is showing up on radar at mid-afternoon, and most places will be dry through tonight. The low tomorrow morning will be in the 60s.
