Robert McCammon’s ‘Swan Song’ Makes PBS’ ‘Great American Read’ List Of 100 Beloved Books
The novel is the only work by a living Alabama writer to make the list.
SUNNY DECEMBER DAY: Sunshine is out in full force over the northern 2/3 of Alabama this afternoon; clouds linger near the Gulf Coast with some scattered light rain there. Temperatures are only in the 40s over North Alabama, about ten degrees below average for mid-December. Tonight will be fair and cold; most places will see a low in the 28-32 degree range early tomorrow.
The latest satellite image at 12:00 pm shows sunny skies across nearly all of Central Alabama with the exception of the extreme southeastern corner of the area.
After temperatures dropped into the upper 20s and lower 30s across the Tennessee Valley this morning, the threat for black ice remains for a little while longer especially on bridges and overpasses, as well as in the elevated terrain of northeast Alabama.
DRY AIR RETURNS: In the wake of the storm system that brought rain and snow to Alabama yesterday and last night, a drier airmass is in place this morning. We expect a good supply of sunshine today with a high close to 50 degrees; the average high for Birmingham on December 11 is 57.
Just like the high-resolution NAM showed earlier this morning with my first update, snow is coming to an end across much of North/Central Alabama with what little remains falling is over the northern parts of Jackson and Dekalb counties.
NWS Birmingham has canceled the Winter Weather Advisory for Fayette, Walker, and Winston counties, and continues the advisory until 2:00 am for Blount, Cherokee, and Etowah counties.
NWS Huntsville has canceled the Winter Weather Advisory for Cullman, DeKalb, Jackson, Limestone, Madison, Marshall, and Morgan counties.
NWS Birmingham has canceled the Winter Weather Advisory for Lamar and Marion counties but has added Blount, Cherokee, and Etowah counties.
As we approach the 10 o’clock hour on this Tuesday night, we continue to have a good bit of rain moving across the northwestern 2/3rds of the state with snow falling roughly northeast of a line from Vernon to Fayette to Sumiton.
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow-covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
