Turns out mom was right about eating vegetables: UAB research has proven that cruciferous veggies prevent cancer.
Clouds will increase across Alabama through tonight with a backdoor cold front returning rain and storm chances by tomorrow morning.
We will get a respite from the rain today, but showers and some thunder will return on Monday and Tuesday, followed by drying as we head into the latter part of the week.
The storms will slowly weaken through the remainder of the night as instability levels slowly wane. The storms will be completely gone shortly after midnight.
Tomorrow will feature a good supply of sunshine with highs ranging between 78-84F.
At 622 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Uchee, or near Hurtsboro, moving southeast at 15 mph.
Thunderstorms are pushing southeastward across Alabama this afternoon. We are monitoring them strengthening. Damaging winds gusts and hail are possible with the stronger storms.
We will be monitoring all afternoon as the storms progress southeastward. They should be out of the area by 8 p.m. tonight.
As of 10:10 am, we have some shower activity moving across the central portions of the Tennessee Valley and down into the extreme northern parts of Central Alabama, along with some light rain moving across portions of Lamar County.
A few strong to severe storms possible today as a cold front moves through the area. Rain chances will continue through Tuesday, but dry weather will end out the work week.
RADAR CHECK: As expected, showers are fewer in number across Alabama today. We note a few strong thunderstorms over the southwest counties of the state at mid-afternoon; otherwise the sky is mostly cloudy over the northern half of the state with temperatures only in the 70s, well below average for mid to late May. The sky will remain mostly cloudy tonight with a low in the 60s.
