Record Cool Maximums Set Across Central Alabama Thanks to Irma

Today’s high temperature at Birmingham was established at the unusual time of 12:03 a.m. with a reading of 66F.

That means we easily smashed our record cool high for September 11th, which is 70F, set in 1944.

Montgomery topped out at 68F, well short of their record cool maximum for September 11th of 78F. Tara Goggins at the NWS reported the record was actually 73F, so we will go with that. Still, a record.

Anniston recorded a high of 64F, well below their record of 73F.

Tuscaloosa reported 68F, also a record, by 6 degrees.

Rainfall records may not fall, but they have been decent in the eastern half of the area:
