With temperatures starting off as low as the upper 30s in some communities this morning, a nice warm-up under sunny skies is in store for North/Central Alabama today.

Skies across the state are sunny and clear, with the exception of a few flat cumulus clouds floating over northeastern parts of Alabama. The closest rain activity to the state is way up in the northeastern United States, where moderate to heavy rainfall associated with a surface low is affecting areas of northern North Carolina stretching to the north through Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Connecticut, and New York.

QUICK LOOK AT TEMPERATURES: Temperatures have already warmed nicely from the early morning lows, but are still expected to rise throughout the early afternoon hours. Here is a list of temperature readings from across the state at this time:

Birmingham 66
Tuscaloosa 68
Muscle Shoals 69
Huntsville 68
Anniston 66
Alexander City 67
Montgomery 70
Dothan 67
Mobile 66

REST OF TODAY: Skies will remain sunny, with only a few cumulus clouds dotting the skies at times. Winds will be a little breezy out of the north at 10 to 15 MPH, making it feel cooler. Afternoon highs should reach the low to mid 70s for most communities in North/Central Alabama. Skies will be clear tonight, and winds will start to become light during the overnight hours. Lows will range from the upper 40s to low 50s, with some of the normal colder spots reaching the low to mid 40s.

THE WEEKEND: I could just copy and paste what James said in his post from this morning. Clear skies throughout the weekend. Temperatures will be on a warming trend, as highs on Saturday will be in the low 80s, with mid 80s expected for Sunday.

HEADED TO THE BEACH: From Gulf Shores to Panama City Beach, expect mostly sunny skies and fair nights. Highs along the immediate coast will be in the 70s, with 80s inland. See a very detailed beach forecast here.
