An arc of strong storms is dropping southward across Central Alabama this afternoon.

They extend from Cordova in Walker County through downtown Birmingham to Childersburg to south of Lineville in Clay County.

They are moving south southeast at 15-20 mph. They will pass through southern Jefferson and much of Shelby County over the next hour.

They are not severe, but expect torrential rains, gusty winds to 25-30 mph and lots of deadly lightning.
