Little If Any Chance Of Rain Through The Weekend

| September 20, 2016 @ 3:18 pm

DRY SEPTEMBER DAYS: If cooler afternoon temperatures and a good soaking rain is on your wish list, the news is not necessarily good from the weather office today. An upper level ridge, and a dry airmass will remain in place through the weekend, meaning little day to day change in the weather.

We are forecasting mostly sunny days and fair nights through Sunday, and for now the chance of an afternoon shower is so small that we won’t mention it in the forecast. Afternoon highs will remain close to 90 degrees, but at least dew points are now, making the warmth a little more comfortable.

In fact, at 3:00 Birmingham reported 92 degrees, but the dew point was 57, making the relative humidity 30 percent. The humidity was down to 29 percent at the Shelby County Airport.

FALL ARRIVES THURSDAY: This is the last Tuesday of the summer of 2016; the autumnal equinox is Thursday morning at 9:21 a.m. CT… when the sun is directly over the equator.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: For the high school games Friday night, the sky will be mostly fair with temperatures falling through the 80s.

Alabama hosts Kent State at Bryant-Denny Stadium Saturday morning (11:00a CT kickoff)… the sky will be partly to mostly sunny with temperatures rising from near 86 at kickoff, to 91 degrees by the final whistle.

Auburn will host LSU at Jordan-Hare Stadium Saturday evening (5:00p CT kickoff)… the sky will be mostly clear with temperatures dropping from near 88 degrees at kickoff to near 80 by the end of the game.

NEXT WEEK: Still no sign of a major pattern change. A weak front could bring a few widely scattered showers Tuesday, but nothing too widespread. Highs will be mostly in the 80s, lows in the 60s. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

AT THE BEACH: Mostly sunny days, fair nights, only isolated storms on the coast from Panama City Beach to Gulf Shores through the weekend. Highs on the immediate coast in the upper 80s, with low 90s inland. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.

TROPICS: The “ghost of Julia” is producing cloudy, breezy, and wet weather over eastern North Carolina today. Out in the Atlantic, Tropical Storms Karl and Lisa will stay well east of the U.S. Karl will recurve a little east of Bermuda this weekend, and Lisa will stay out in the East Atlantic. The Gulf of Mexico is very quiet.
