Another New Record

| October 19, 2016 @ 2:25 pm

Note: Birmingham reached 91 degrees for the record high today.

According to data from the National Weather Service observing site at the Birmingham Shuttlesworth International Airport at 2:10 pm, the temperature reached 90 degrees. This value establishes a new record for this date breaking the old record of 88 which was set in 1938 and 1926.

The formation of some cumulus clouds this afternoon probably means the air temperature will not go much higher, however, there is still a possibility that we could see another degree. I’ll try to post an update here if I see that happen.

We’re still on track to see some rain from Thursday afternoon through Friday morning. It won’t rain all of that time – even though I wish it would – but those are the best hours in which we could see rain in Central Alabama. Rainfall amounts will be slim with less than a half inch expected in the heaviest showers and most spots receiving less than a quarter of an inch. After that the air should cool down nicely with highs mainly in the 70s and morning lows mainly in the 40s. Sounds like some great Fall jacket weather to me!!
