Flirting With Record Highs This Weekend
RADAR CHECK: There is basically one shower in the state as I write this at 3:05 this afternoon… it is near Dogtown in DeKalb County, and it won’t last long…
You could count the number of showers on one hand at any given point today, and most of the state had no rain at all. The sky is partly sunny, and temperatures are mostly in the low 80s.
For Birmingham, today is the 39th consecutive day without measurable rain, and since we expect no rain tomorrow through Monday, we will finish October with only a trace for the entire month. Birmingham also had no measurable rain in October 1901 and 1924.
TOMORROW THROUGH THE WEEKEND: With no soil moisture, solar energy will be used exclusively to heat the ground, which heats the air, and afternoons will be very warm on these three days. Highs will be close to record levels, with mid 80s likely. Sunny days, fair nights, drought conditions worsen.
FOOTBALL WEATHER: A clear sky for the high school games tomorrow night with temperatures falling through the 70s.
For Saturday’s Magic City Classic in Birmingham (Alabama State vs Alabama A&M… 3p CT kickoff), the sky will be sunny with temperatures falling from near 85 degrees at kickoff, into the 70s by the fourth quarter.
Auburn is on the road this weekend; they play at Ole Miss in Oxford (6:15p CT kickoff)… the sky will be clear with temperatures falling from near 75 at kickoff into the upper 60s by the fourth quarter.
Alabama has the weekend off.
NEXT WEEK: We stay warm and dry Monday and Tuesday; the latter half of the week should be cooler with highs dropping into the 70s by Thursday and Friday. AT THE BEACH: Sunny days, fair nights through early next week on the Gulf Coast from Gulf Shores to Panama City Beach; highs in the low 80s. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.
TROPICS: A disturbance is over the western Caribbean, but is not expected to develop… the rest of the Atlantic basin is very quiet.
