Super Nice but Super Dry Out There at Midday

Its warming up outside in Central Alabama at the 11:00 AM hour, and not a cloud can be found across the area. Looking at the latest satellite and radar image, the southeast is pretty much clear of any cloud cover and precipitation, with the exception of the Florida Peninsula where skies are partly cloudy and a few scattered showers are located near Miami.

Temperatures in Central Alabama at 11:00 AM CDT:

Burn Ban and Fire Alert:
A Drought Emergency continues in effect, banning any outdoor burning for the northern two-thirds of the state. A Fire Alert remains in effect for the whole state. Click here for more information.

Code Yellow Air Quality Alert:
Particulate Matter 2.5 levels will be high enough to raise a Code Yellow Air Quality Alert for the Birmingham metropolitan area today. Unusually sensitive people should consider limiting prolonged outdoor exertion.

Birmingham’s Climatology and Records:
The normal high for October 28th is 71, while the normal low is 47. The record high for today was set back in 1900 at 86. The record low was set back in 1957 at 27.

Rest of Today:
With the lack of moisture in the soil, and none of the sun’s energy will be used for evaporation. All of it will go strictly into heating the ground, which will heat the air temperature. With that being said, we should tie or break the record high in Birmingham. Current record of 86 degrees was set back in 1900. The sun will be out in full force and afternoon highs will be in the mid to upper 80s throughout Central Alabama. Clear skies and warm temperatures can be expected at kickoff time for tonight’s high school football action. It will be in the upper 70s to low 80s at 6PM throughout the area, with temperatures falling into the 60s by 10PM. Overnight lows will mostly be in the 50s.

Saturday’s Forecast:
A repeat of today’s forecast, maybe a degree or two warmer. Sunny skies and unseasonably warm for the last Saturday of October. Another record high could be tied or broken yet again in Birmingham. Afternoon highs will be in the mid to upper 80s, and I wouldn’t be surprised if one or two locations touch 90 degrees. Just like this evenings forecast, skies will be clear and temperatures will be warm for this time of year. Temperatures will be in the upper 70s to low 80s at 6PM, falling into the 60s by 10PM, and overnight lows mostly in the 50s.

Magic City Classic at Legion Field:
Alabama State will be taking on Alabama A&M. Skies will be sunny, with temperatures starting off in the mid 80s at 3:00PM CDT for kickoff, and falling into the 70s by the fourth quarter.

Auburn at Ole Miss:
Skies will be clear in Oxford, with temperatures starting off in the mid 70s at 6:15PM CDT for kickoff, and falling into the upper 60s by the fourth quarter.

Headed to the Beach:
Sunny days, fair nights on the coast through the weekend and next week. Highs will be in the low 80s and lows in the 60s. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.

The Tropics:
Tropical cyclone formation is not expected during the next 5 days across the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and the North Atlantic Ocean.

On This Day in 1989:
A storm crossing the western U.S. produced 10 to 20 inches of snow across northern and central Wyoming, with 22 inches reported at Burgess Junction. Seven cities in the Lower Ohio Valley and the Upper Great Lakes Region reported record high temperatures for the date as readings again warmed into the 70s. Alpena MI reported a record high of 75 degrees.
