Midday Nowcast: Sunny and Cool

| February 10, 2017 @ 1:13 pm

A sun-filled sky continues to greet you outside today. Our surface winds are shifting out of the southeast as the area of high pressure moves to our east and the clockwise flow around it brings in warmer air. After the chilly start the day, our temperatures are in the 50s and 60s, not too bad for February.

NOT AS COLD TONIGHT: Our clouds begin to increase overnight, and we are going to see our temperatures remaining above freezing, and actually most of us will be 10-15 degrees warmer tonight, as we are forecasting lower to mid 40s by early tomorrow morning.

WARM WEEKEND WEATHER: Noticeably warmer this weekend. We are going to see a mix of sun and clouds tomorrow, with highs back into the lower 70s. Saturday for the most part looks dry, but we can’t rule out a few showers across northern portions of the state. Clouds will continue to increase Sunday, and we are going to have to mention scattered showers at just about any time through the day, with a more widespread rain late Sunday and into Monday along a cold front that will move into the region. Sunday’s high will be in the lower 70s for most of us. Then by Monday, we are going to see cooler temperatures behind the front with upper 50s back in the forecast.

WORLD TEMPERATURE EXTREMES: Over the last 24 hours, the highest observation was 117.5F at Hays Airport, Australia. The lowest observation was -55.1F at Dome A, Antarctica.

CONTIGUOUS TEMPERATURE EXTREMES: The highest observation was 89F at Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach, FL. The lowest observation was -23F at Mount Washington, NH.

WEATHER ON THIS DATE IN 2011: The coldest day in Oklahoma history sees the temperature plunge to -31°F at Nowata, OK. A US National Weather Service station at Bartlesville recorded a reading of -28°F. Both locations break the previous low temperature mark of -27°F set in 1905 and tied in 1930
