Fairfield Damage Consistent with EF-2 Tornado

The National Weather Service has conducted a storm survey of the tornado that struck western Birmingham early this afternoon and found damage consistent with 120 mph winds near Western Hills Mall, making the tornado a mid-range EF2. Power poles were snapped and walls and exterior walls that collapsed on fairly well built structures.

The track will be several miles. It runs from at least the Fairfield Fire Station into Ensley. The entire survey may take a couple of days since severe weather is expected tomorrow.

There were 4 injuries associated with the tornado.
