Heavy rainfall is now occurring over the Birmingham Metropolitan Area at this point, especially stretching from downtown to Tarrant City To Irondale and points in between. Some locations are already showing over 1/2 inch totals in just a short time, especially just southeast of Tarrant, at the Birmingham International Airport, and really close to downtown Birmingham.

More heavy storms are affecting other parts of the county. Radar estimates of over 1 inch are already showing over the western parts of Jefferson County.

These storms are also producing dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning. Not much wind with these storms at this point, but if they continue to build, these winds will become more likely when they start to collapse.
